PARSIPPANY, N.J.— Thousands collectively ran, biked, paddled, and rode horseback in a cross-continental, virtual race to raise awareness regarding the high rates of veterinary suicide and mental health stressors in the veterinary community. Zoetis partnered with Not One More Vet (NOMV) as its premier sponsor to help bring this important impact-driven fundraising effort to life, which raised more than $104,855.
“NOMV’s Race Around the World raised significant funds to provide programmatic support and grants to individuals in crisis, strengthening peer support connections along with extensive educational and wellness initiatives for veterinarians,” said Carrie Jurney, DVM, NOMV president. “We recognize now more than ever how essential it is to increase the community’s access to mental health education and resources as well as to professional and peer support for veterinarians who strive to provide the best care for the animals we know and love.”
A total of 1,792 participants from across the world gathered donations through a variety of physical activities in the month of September. Fundraisers tracked those miles with fitness devices and logged mileage each day on NOMV’s interactive event web-platform, atlasGO. The Race Around the World initiative exceeded its goal of 171,975 kilometers covered — tallying 106,860 participant miles in total. To put this mileage into perspective—that distance equates to nearly 4.3 trips around the world! This was a truly remarkable feat achieved by all who registered individually, with friends and family, and even with entire veterinary clinic teams.
Veterinarians and their teams are at the heart of Zoetis’ purpose, To nurture the world and humankind by advancing care for animals, and NOMV’s mental health programming provides trusted support and resources veterinarians need to provide the best experience for the pet patients they care for each day. The Zoetis Equine and Petcare divisions partnered with NOMV to recognize the veterinary professionals who bring their expertise and dedication to their work day in and out; these veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other staff add incredible value to the lives of animals and their owners and deserve the best professional and personal support.
“Horse owners know that when their horses recognize care and compassion—they return it tenfold. The care given to our horses by the amazing veterinary teams around the globe is not lost on us,” said Jen Grant, Head of Marketing, U.S. Equine Business at Zoetis. “Veterinary professionals are the selfless backbone of our animals’ health and we are honored to support an organization that advocates for the fortitude of community to help strengthen a veterinarian’s clinical support system.”
“Zoetis is committed to the health and wellbeing of veterinarians, and we were honored to sponsor the Not One More Vet Race Around the World. We strive to empower and support the veterinary community to prioritize well-being, so they continue to take care of animals and themselves,” said Tara Bidgood, DVM, PhD, DACVCP Executive Director, Veterinary Professional Services and Medical Affairs, U.S. Petcare.
