Volunteer Spotlight: Shannon Emmons, DVM

Shannon Emmons, a veterinarian examining a small dog

How long have you volunteered with NOMV?

Since April 2021!

What’s your role(s) with NOMV?

Working on setting up the NOMV Ambassador Program

What’s your professional role?

DVM and Owner of Eliot Veterinary Hospital

What’s your favorite thing about volunteering for NOMV?

Being able to make a difference for my colleagues.

Why do you volunteer for NOMV?

It’s an amazing organization looking to help the veterinary community, if I can be a part of that and the reason somebody stays on this earth, that’s all I can ask for.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I’m an avid hiker, hiking with my dogs is my happy place!

Where are you located?

Maine

Why are you committed to the NOMV mission?

I can’t stand seeing colleagues continuing to struggle like this. I want to do what’s best to help those I love and care about, to ensure that not one more vet, vet support staff, vet tech, etc. feels that the only way out is suicide.

What goals do you have for the future of your profession?

That we as a community can rally to support one another, to get rid of the competition, and build comradery instead. That we can get rid of the ways of the past where we ran ourselves ragged because it was what our predecessors did, so we can take care of ourselves in order to best take care of our patients.

What are your aspirations within NOMV?

I’m excited to be a part of getting the Ambassadors program up and running, as well as joining the Education committee.
